Next episode. I tried using AI to cut some of the ums and silences which may of kinda butchered it audio wise but I said I would put out once a week so here it goes.
This story is rather special to me because this assignment is what made me pursue photojournalism and video. The photos are black and white on this as I wanted that feeling to the photos. I always loved James Nachtwey’s photographs and so I shot all these photos in b&w on the camera. Caused some issues with some editors who wanted pics in colour when the images went to US press but they ran the pictures. The news report went to CNN and played on rotation for a few weeks and the photos were in the New York Times and the Guardian.
I got nominated for a Peabody Award for the news article.
I also realized I forgot to add the photo of the Afghan kid who smiled while getting his legs amputated several years later so here it is now.
I would like to thank Samantha Page for donating the money for his wheelchair that helped him continue on with his life. To see him play disabled basketball in Kandahar was amazing to watch.
Though it is early days of vlog making on this, it is rather lethargic but worth it. It is also a way of conquering sometime demons in your mind. But I get through it and go through the dozens of hard drives to find content.
Also thank you to people who actually subscribed. I will make sure that once the book is completed, I will send some proof sheet photographs with the book.
Next chapter is Somalia and the first real encounter of pure fear and death.
